The wall behind a dining table is usually empty, because anything deep gets in the way of the chairs. A slim wood console table fixes that. Add a round mirror above it, one lamp, and a few small things, and the dead wall becomes the warmest spot in the room. Here is the corner piece by piece — six that earned a place, and one that did not.

Slim is the whole point. A narrow console sits close to the wall and leaves room for a chair to pull back. Anything deeper would turn the dining table into an obstacle course.
The mirror catches the door across the room. That turns a flat wall into something that looks like a view, and it doubles the lamp light at night.
One lamp, low and warm. With the overhead light off, the lamp on the console is the only light in the scene. Light at table height makes dinner feel slower than light from the ceiling.
Things sit at three heights. Tall flowers at one end, a small bust in the middle, the lamp at the other end. Nothing matches, but nothing is the same height either, so the top never looks cluttered.
The order matters when putting it together. Console first, centred on the wall, not on the table. Mirror second, hung a hand's width above the console. Lamp and small things last.
Dark wood, thin legs, one long drawer with a fluted front. The fluting gives it texture without any hardware or decoration, and the open space underneath keeps it light against the wall.
Depth is the number that matters. Behind a dining table, every extra inch comes out of the space a chair needs to pull back.
Thin wood frame, simple circle. The round shape breaks up all the straight lines of the console, the table and the door frame. The wood tone sits close to the console, so the two read as a pair.
Round works here because the door it reflects is all straight lines. A rectangle would just repeat the door.
Dark glazed base, cream drum shade, short enough to sit under the mirror. It is the piece that turns the corner on at night, and the one that makes the whole scene warm.
The cord runs down the back leg to the outlet. A cord clip on the leg keeps it out of sight.
Small, pale, and set just in front of the lamp. The white stands out against the dark wood and catches the lamp light. It is the one object on the console that is there only to be looked at.
One object like this is a detail. Three would be a collection, and the console is too narrow for that.
Clear ribbed glass, tall dried stems in deep burgundy. The only colour in the corner, and the tallest thing on the console. Dried, so it looks the same in March as it does in October.
Dried stems shed a little when brushed. Worth keeping them at the end of the console away from the walkway.
A loose branch with small dark flowers, pinned to the wall beside the console. It fills the empty space at the side and ties the flowers in the vase to the wall behind them.

A deeper console with a lower shelf was the obvious first choice. More surface, room for baskets underneath, more storage overall. It lost for one reason: behind a dining table, a deep console takes the space a chair needs to pull back, and a lower shelf fills up with things that should live somewhere else. The slim one leaves the floor open and the wall calm. The trade is one drawer of storage instead of a whole shelf.
